Wedding Peach
[Episodes 1-28 of 51 Reviewed]
[Reviewed by Bethany]

Wedding Peach is a shoujo/fantasy anime sort of along the lines of Sailor Moon—or so I've heard; I haven't actually seen any of Sailor Moon. Its premise is simple and probably viewed with more than a little bit of skepticism—unless you bear in mind that Wedding Peach does not take itself seriously. It's silly and cute and revels in its own absurdity... and yet still manages to be one of the most entertaining anime series I've seen.

Story
Momoko is your typical pink-haired junior high student—she's bright and cheerful at times, sad at times, loves her two close friends Yuri and Hinagiku, and has a crush on an older boy. She dreams of one day marrying the boy of her dreams (who currently happens to be Yanagiba-senpai — also the object of her friends' affections) and wear a beautiful wedding dress. ...While her wedding may be far off, she gets the chance to wear a dress much sooner: Momoko, Yuri, and Hinagiku become Love Angels, battling against demons who are trying to interfere with anyone in love. (And other, more spoilerish, things.)

Now before you go and scoff, I suggest you give it a try—it may sound a bit absurd, but it's all very tongue-in-cheek—take, for instance, Limone's musical staircase from heaven, or Yuri's Lipliner attack. If you go into it expecting to be entertained, you will not be disappointed in the least. There's a sort of indefiniable charm to it, which is likely largely due to its wonderfully developed characters. ...Not to mention the character interactions, an extremely important part of a show that can redeem even a poorly-done anime (which Wedding Peach is not). Never does it stray into the realms of dull and boring, and never does it lose its quirky perception of the world: it could be said to be a parody of Sailor Moon, but equally could you say it's parodying real life. ...Only, real life with a lot more angels, devils, and pink. ...But, of course, you'll need a high tolerance for sweetness and adorableness should you choose to take this on.

What Else?
The music is wonderful — in a cheerful j-popy way. The first opening and both endings are song by the music group FURIL (which happens to be made up of the three voices actors for Momoko, Yuri, and Hinagiku) — which are... well, rather peppy, but they're fun. And the opening to the second season (sung by Nakajima Erina) has me in all sorts of raving obsession. The background music is pretty cute as well — they use instrumental versions of the opening and ending themes a bit too often, but I love the opening and ending, so I don't much care — and the other tracks are pretty darn enjoyable.

Wedding Peach is quite obviously aimed at a [fairly young] female audience—and it gives out some pretty damn good messages about appearances and faith in oneself. But I think it can really be enjoyed by people much older ... either that or I'm extremely immature, which is entirely possible.

The Bottom Line
Wedding Peach is a quirky and entertaining shoujo anime. Want something addicting and entertaining? Wedding Peach is for you. Just try to get past the floofiness of Momoko's vibrant hair.
